Common Questions For Chocolate Chip Marshmallow Cookies:

How Keep Marshmallows From Melting?

  • Marshmallows are just little bits of sugar and can easily melt and caramelize in the oven if they are added too soon or too warm.

  • Freeze your marshmallows and add them while still frozen! This will slow the melting process down and ensure you have a little chew left when the cookies cool.

  • Add the marshmallows part way through cooking the cookies! I reserve half of my marshmallows and add them to the soft cookie dough after about 6 minutes of cooking.

What Makes Cookies Chewy Instead of Crispy?

  • To make chewy chocolate chip marshmallow cookies I use a little extra brown sugar in this recipe. Brown sugar contains more moisture than granulated sugar, which will make your cookies a little crispier compared to using brown sugar.

  • Adding an extra egg yolk will also make your cookies chewier. The egg yolk will add a little extra fat, which will make your cookies soft and delicious.

Does Chocolate Chip Marshmallow Cookie Dough Need To Be Chilled?

  • I recommend chilling your cookie dough prior to baking. Since we are adding marshmallows, we want to prevent the marshmallows getting to hot. By chilling the dough, the butter has a chance to reharden, which in turn, will help the marshmallow cookie process.

  • You want to skip the chilling process, just make sure your marshmallows are frozen! This is the most important chilling aspect for this cookie dough.

What Kind Of Butter Should I use For Chocolate Chip Cookies?

  • Softened, unsalted butter is best for baking cookies. This helps ensure you do not over salt the cookie dough.

  • If you only have salted butter, that is ok! Just leave out the extra salt that is called for in the recipe!

  • Softened butter is best for creaming with the sugars. If you butter gets too soft, you can just chill the cookie dough a little extra longer!

Tips For Chocolate Chip Marshmallow Cookies:

  • If you are making these cookies during the holiday season, adding a dash of cinnamon will give you a “cup of cocoa” feel! The cinnamon is a warming spice that goes so good with the marshmallows!

  • You can use mini chocolate chips or normal chocolate chips! The mini chocolate chips are the perfect compliment to the mini marshmallow! If you use normal chocolate chips, add in a few extra.

  • You can sprinkle the top with flaky salt for extra flavor! These cookies the definitely a sweet cookie and having a little extra salt will be so delicious.
