Honey whipped sweet potatoes with cinnamon do not have to be a festive only dish, they are so easy to make that you will love serving them year round with a good meatloaf, with grilled chicken, or even with an extra pat of butter for something cozy at the end of the day. The best part is, the flavor gets better as leftovers as the butter, cinnamon, and honey all meld together so well when stored.

Common Questions About Honey Whipped Sweet Potatoes:

What Kind Of Sweet Potatoes Do I Use For Honey Whipped Sweet Potatoes?

  • You can use white or red sweet potatoes for this recipe. Both contain a generous amount of natural sugar that compliments the honey and spices that go into these potatoes. You can also use Japanese sweet potato that is a starchier sweet potato but is not always as widely carried in grocery stories.

  • You can also use regular potatoes for this recipe but they will, of course, not be as sweet! I love using the sweet potatoes as a way to mix up enjoying mashed potatoes but this recipes works well with regular as well.

Do I Need To Peel My Sweet Potatoes First?

  • Potato skins can offer fiber and texture in mashed potatoes and can definitely be left on the potatoes prior to boiling. I prefer to peel my potatoes as it allows a smoother whipped texture for a final product. If you plan on leaving the skin, be sure to scrub and clean your sweet potatoes really well first. You also may find your immersion blender has trouble blending the potato skins. You can combat this by using a Kitchen Aid, a potato masher, or enjoy a chunkier texture.

How Do To Make These Whipped Sweet Potatoes Extra Creamy?

  • Extra creamy mashed potatoes can be achieved with a couple of different additions. My favorite add-ins are butter and parmesan cheese. A combination of both achieves a creamy sweet potato mash that is a dash savory but so good when paired with the honey.

  • You can also add cream or milk to honey whipped sweet potatoes but that can also weigh your potatoes down and make them really full of liquid. If you choose to add cream, add it carefully stir between each addition of a couple of tablespoons.

Ingredients For Honey Whipped Sweet Potatoes:

Recipe: Serves 4

  • 2-3 Medium Sweet Potatoes See notes above for potato options.
  • 2 Tbs Salted Butter Irish Salted butter is a delicious option, but any butter will do.
  • 2 Tbs Honey To taste. You can also use maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon To taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder to taste
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg Nutmeg is a strong flavor but feel free to add in extra nutmeg to taste.
  • 2 Tbs Milk of Choice I often used almond milk but you can use whole milk or leave out the milk all together.
