Common Questions For Lox Bagel Sandwich
What Goes Well on Bagel Sandwiches?
Other than cream cheese, there is a lot that goes well on bagels. I called this bagel sandwich a loaded bagel because I found that quite a lot can be piled onto a bagel to make a filling and delicious sandwich.
Cured or cooked meats go well with bagels. Scrambled or fried eggs go well on bagels, and dressings like ranch or butter go really well on bagels. I love the combination of butter and cream cheese!
I love adding crunch to my bagels with sprouts but other greens go well too like spinach or lettuce. Let me know what you like on your bagel in the comments below!
This loaded bagel sandwich uses cream cheese, butter, lox, a fried egg, and sprouts to bring your flavor, texture, and a filling high protein breakfast.
How Do You Pack a Bagel Sandwich To Go?
Packing this high protein bagel as a breakfast sandwich for your work is a great way to have a filling breakfast at the office or on the road! To pack a bagel sandwich you can wrap the loaded bagel with parchment paper and then in foil. This helps prevent a lot of moisture build up in the foil as the paper should absorb most of it.
You can also just wrap the bagel in a paper towel and then place it in a ziploc bag. The paper towel will do the same as the parchment paper and the bag is an easy transport option.
How Long Do Bagels Last In the Fridge and How Do You Store Them?
You can store leftover or unused bagels in a ziploc bags! This helps them stay moist for when you are ready to use them. I recommend buying and using bagels within about 1 week or you may find they get pretty dry.
If you make a bagel sandwich and find that you need to store to eat later, I recommend reheating in the oven or toaster oven! This will help re-toast the outside of the bagel. You can also microwave the bagel sandwich or even eat it cold. How do yo like to eat your leftovers?
Can You Toast A Bagel and Eat it Later?
You can toast a bagel and eat it later. When you toast a bagel and let it sit out, you may find that it dries out and will require a little reheat with an extra layer of cream cheese.
If you toast your bagel, apply butter or cream cheese and then want to eat it later you may have some parts that are a little soggy where the butter or cream cheese has soaked in.
Can You Freeze Lox?
If you have leftover Lox you need to save, you can freeze it for later use! Either in a freezer safe container or vacuum sealed for freshness, frozen Lox will last in your freezer for 4-6 months.
You can also use leftover Lox or smoke salmon for my Three Salmon Breakfast Ideas! These are three very high protein breakfasts that use salmon and eggs for something super delicious to start your day!

Directions For Lox Bagel Sandwich with Egg
Toast the Bagel
Cut and toast your bagel to the desired level of crispiness. I love my bagels with a little darker color, but level of toasting is a personal preference!
To your toasted bagel, spread cream cheese on one side and butter on the other. I use about 1 Tbs of cream cheese and 1/2 Tbs of butter. The butter and cream cheese add moisture and help hold all the ingredients together.
Add the lox. You can also sub out smoked salmon here, or even lunch meat of some kind.
Fry the Egg
To a skillet, add 1/2 Tbs of butter. When bubbling, crack the egg in and allow to cook until the white is solid but the yolk is still undercooked, about 90 seconds.
Using a spatula, flip the egg to cook the yolk side. Allow to fry an additional 2 minutes for a full cooked yolk, or pull it off slightly sooner if you want a runny yolk. You can also flip the egg with just a wrist flick if you are feeling ambitious!
Remove from the skillet and place directly on your bagel. I use a spatula to scoop the egg out and onto the bagel.
Add the microgreens. I usually add a generous handful but you can add more or less. I have also made this sandwich with spinach and spring mix too!
Cut in half and enjoy! Serve with fruit, coffee, or extra eggs!
